Mikel Arteta is still hoping to bring in a winger to compete with and provide cover for Bukayo Saka, according to a report.

Goal report that with Raphinha opting to join Barcelona over Arsenal or Chelsea, the Gunners still feel they have a hold in the squad.

Mikel Arteta wants to bring in a player to cover for Bukayo Saka, but also to compete with the winger. So he’s specifically looking for a winger capable of starting on the right.

Arteta currently has Nicolas Pepe in his squad, but Arsenal will allow Pepe to move on this summer as long as they can find a buyer. The club’s record signing is no longer in their long-term plans.

The identity of Arsenal’s target on the wing remains a mystery for now. There are no strong links to anyone as it stands.

There was some talk of a move for Cody Gakpo this week, but Gakpo is pretty decidedly a left-winger. Though he has played occasionally on the right, it’s clearly not his preferred position.

Arteta’s latest quotes on Arsenal’s window support Goal’s assessment, with the manager insisting there’s still more to do – in and out – following the signing of Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Evidently, Arteta is hoping to make at least one more signing, and a winger makes sense. Arsenal needed to add more goals last season, and bringing in a winger as well as Gabriel Jesus up front will help.
