Arsenal rejected an offer of just £7m plus add-ons from Fulham for Bernd Leno this summer, but both clubs are motivated to do a deal.
James Benge reports that Fulham’s offer for Bernd Leno was just £7m upfront, with up to £3m in add-ons.
Though not much has changed in the last week, both clubs are reportedly keen to do the transfer, so you never know when a breakthrough might occur.
Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport Germany reported this week that Arsenal are still yet to reach an agreement with Fulham.
For Fulham’s part, they’re still hoping Arsenal reduce their asking price. Leno is ready to complete the deal as soon as the clubs agree, but for now, the situation remains open-ended.
Plettenberg previously wrote that Leno had agreed personal terms with Fulham on a three-year deal with an option for a fourth.
Arsenal have been asking for around £11m, with negotiations ongoing, but that’s apparently “too much”.
From an Arsenal point of view, Leno is a very good goalkeeper and Fulham are a Premier League side, they should be able to afford the transfer.
German outlet Bild claimed Arsenal’s decision not to name Leno in their squad to face FC Nurnberg was because they didn’t want to risk an injury jeopardising the goalkeeper’s transfer.
It’s notable that he’s still yet to make an appearance since then, sitting out for games against Everton, Orlando City, and Chelsea.
Leno wants the Fulham move to try and get regular football ahead of the World Cup, with the newly-promoted side able to offer him a starting role.
