Arsenal believe they’re in a good position to try and push a deal for Youri Tielemans over the line after the international break.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Goal’s Charles Watts reported on Wednesday that Arsenal feel they’re in a good position with Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans.

The Gunners are reportedly hoping to get a deal for the 25-year-old over the line once the player is done with international duty.

Tielemans impressed against Poland on Wednesday night, providing an assist and completing 90 minutes in a 6-1 thrashing for Belgium. But they still have a couple more fixtures to go, facing Wales on Saturday and Poland again on Tuesday.

The Daily Mail reported this week that Arsenal are confident they can agree a deal to sign Tielemans this summer, and the player certainly didn’t appear to be ruling out that possibility.

“That (a transfer) is not out of the question,” Tielemans said. “I feel very good at Leicester, I was welcomed with open arms from day one. I give everything for the club until the last day.

“But of course, you have to listen to other opportunities, you have to look at your career, and sometimes you have to make choices. Maybe one will come my way.”

Fabrizio Romano claims Arsenal are one of three clubs in the race for Tielemans. He remains a target for Mikel Arteta’s midfield, though no deal is imminent and negotiations will take some time.

The Telegraph’s John Percy wrote that Arteta is pushing Arsenal to make an opening £25m bid for Tielemans. The club’s head of UK scouting has consistently been watching the midfielder throughout the current campaign.

But Percy added that Leicester could demand a fee of over £30m, despite Tielemans’ deal running down in 2023.

Tielemans scored seven goals and provided five assists in 50 games for Leicester City in all competitions this season, with 10 of those goal contributions coming in his 32 Premier League games.
