Pablo Mari is still an Arsenal player although the hope is that by the end of this transfer window, that’s no longer the case.

Udinese, where the central defender spent last season on loan, are keen to bring him back, but, as you can read below, they can’t afford him.

AC Milan, however, are also now said to be interested in the 28-year-old who turns 29 on 31 August.

They are said to be keen to bring in a player already adapted the Serie A and they’ve seen from Mari a player who has done just that.

Udinese in talks over Arsenal transfer – they want a loan

Udinese are in talks with Arsenal over another move for Pablo Mari, but they reportedly can’t afford to pay what Arsenal bought him for.

Il Gazzettino (via TMW) report that Udinese are hard at work in talks to try and find an agreement with Arsenal to sign Pablo Mari.

Udinese are keen on securing another loan for the defender, as the report suggests that a permanent signing for a similar fee to what Arsenal paid to bring Mari in would be too much.

Previous reports claimed Udinese were offering as little as €4m to make the move permanent.

That sort of fee wouldn’t be enough to convince Arsenal to sell, but negotiations are ongoing and it seems likely the two clubs will eventually reach a consensus – perhaps on loan.

Mari was very much out of favour at Arsenal before his loan, and bringing any money in for him would be a positive. But going as low as €4m does seem a little too far.

The centre-back ended his loan on a high, making the WhoScored Team of the Week for Serie A in his final appearance.

Over the course of the loan, the 28-year-old made 15 Udinese appearances and scored two goals, only failing to feature in three of their fixtures.
