Lucas Torreira has won yet another Player of the Month award with Fiorentina, his third in the first four months of 2022.

Arsenal loanee Lucas Torreira posted on his Twitter account on Friday to confirm he’d once again been chosen as the Fiorentina player of the month – this time for April.

Torreira had already won the awards for January and March, so this is his third award in quick succession.

“Thank you very much for continuing to show me appreciation and affection,” Torreira wrote. “You will always have the best of me.”

In a relatively poor month for Fiorentina, it perhaps wasn’t particularly hard to rise to the top.

The team began the month with three wins, but ended it with three straight defeats to be eliminated from the Italian domestic cup and fall behind in the race for the Serie A European places.

Torreira scored the winner in one of their three victories, and clearly did enough in the other matches to stand out.

La Nazione recently reported that Fiorentina are now expecting to pay Torreira’s purchase clause, agreed with Arsenal to be set at €15m when he initially made his loan move to the Serie A side.

Previous reports had suggested that Fiorentina might try and negotiate that fee down, but these latest claims suggest they want a quick and straightforward resolution to his transfer, which is now close. The deal could reportedly be done by mid-May.

The change in stance is likely in part due to Torreira’s performances.

Fiorentina have benefitted from some strong displays from the Uruguayan international in recent months, as evidenced by all these awards, and he’s arguably become one of their key players.

If Fiorentina don’t pay up, Arsenal shouldn’t have any problem finding another buyer at €15m. It would be a good value deal if Torreira keeps playing as he has been.
