Fiorentina are now expecting to pay the €15m fee Arsenal put in Lucas Torreira’s contract at the start of the season to make his deal permanent.

La Nazione (via GIFN) report that Fiorentina are now expecting to pay Lucas Torreira’s purchase clause, agreed with Arsenal to be set at €15m when he initially made his loan move to the Serie A side.

Previous reports had suggested that Fiorentina might try and negotiate that fee down, but these latest claims suggest they want a quick and straightforward resolution to his transfer, which is now close. The deal could reportedly be done by Mid-May.

The change in stance is likely in part due to Torreira’s performances. Fiorentina have benefitted from some strong displays from the Uruguayan international in recent months, and he’s arguably become one of their key players.

If Fiorentina don’t pay up, Arsenal shouldn’t have any problem finding another buyer at €15m. It would be a good value deal if Torreira keeps playing as he has been.

Arsenal have had a mixed bag with loanees in recent seasons, but the senior loanees this campaign are mostly going into the summer having increased or at least maintained their valuation.

Hector Bellerin (Real Betis), Pablo Mari (Udinese), William Saliba (Marseille), and Lucas Torreira are all wanted by the loan clubs on permanent deals, on top of the deals already effectively completed for Matteo Guendouzi (Marseille) and Konstantinos Mavropanos (Stuttgart).

Reiss Nelson took a while to get going, but he’s been one of Feyenoord’s best players in the last couple of months.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is unlikely to stay with AS Roma, and there’s been no news on Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson joining OH Leuven permanently – though his loan spell has been a success overall.

That’s certainly not a bad batch, and it looks like Torreira is the next one Arsenal are set to cash in on.
