Arsenal are reportedly closing in on the signing of Youri Tielemans, but the success of a deal will depend on whether they finish in the top four.

The Mirror report that Arsenal are targeting Youri Tielemans as one of Mikel Arteta’s top targets this summer. They claim Leicester City are bracing themselves for offers, and Arsenal will be favourites to sign him if they can finish in the top four.

Meanwhile, The S*n claim Arsenal are closing in on a £40m deal for the player, with growing confidence that he’ll move to the Emirates Stadium next season.

But once again, they add that Arsenal’s potential failure to qualify for the Champions League would hurt their chances, with Real Madrid reportedly waiting to pounce in that instance.

Both outlets reference previous reports of interest from Manchester United, but United’s failure to make the top four and the possibility they may not even qualify for the Europa League has seemingly put an end to their pursuit.

CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs recently revealed that Arsenal have been in talks over the potential signing of Tielemans for a year, meeting with the player’s agent on multiple occasions.

Both Edu and Mikel Arteta are keen on the player, knowing he won’t sign a new deal at Leicester City and his current contract expires in 2023.

In contrast to The S*n’s claim of a £40m deal, Jacobs said that Tielemans could be available for just £25m.

The Telegraph had reported that Leicester are making plans for summer signings, but their current financial situation will force them to sell to bring players in.

Tielemans is one of the players likely to be on the way out, with The Telegraph agreeing with Jacobs that he’ll be priced at around £25m.

Tielemans has seven goals and four assists in 46 games for Leicester City in all competitions this season, with nine of those goal contributions coming in his 28 Premier League games.
