Arsenal are one of at least three Premier League clubs interested in young Reims striker Hugo Ekitike, according to a report.

ESPN claim Arsenal are keen on Reims 19-year-old Hugo Ekitike, joining Newcastle United and Manchester United in the race for his signature.

Newcastle almost signed Ekitike in January, whilst Manchester United have made an approach to the player’s representatives. Away from the Premier League, Bayern Munich are also in the running as they look towards life without Robert Lewandowski.

Playing in France this season, Ekitike has scored 10 goals and assisted three in 23 appearances for Reims.

At 19, that’s clearly an impressive record, and one he likely would have added to if not for a couple of red card suspensions and a recent hamstring injury.

ESPN sources suggest Ekitike would be available for €15m, so he’d be a cheap addition to the squad if Arsenal could convince him to pick them over the alternatives.

That’s a significant decrease in valuation compared to what he was going for in January (at closer to €40m), but that does make some sense given Newcastle were the main club in for him – throwing money around in a rather panicked fashion to avoid relegation.

Summer should be a calmer market, so Reims’ negotiating power isn’t quite so strong.
