On Tuesday, Olympique de Marseille announced their winner of the Player of the Month award for January, with William Saliba earning the winning share of the votes.

January was a good month for Marseille, as they won two and drew one in the league whilst also winning both of their cup games. They only conceded two goals across those five matches.

So to be the standout performer in a strong month is certainly a big positive for Saliba.

This is already the busiest season of Saliba’s senior career, as he’s now up to 32 appearances in all competitions.

That’s likely to continue to add up, as he doesn’t seem close to losing his place in the team. Marseille could have a long run of Europa Conference League knockout matches to play on top of their remaining league games.

There have been plenty of reports of outside interest in Saliba in recent months, but Goal report that Arsenal continue to insist Saliba remains a key part of their future.

The Gunners believe Saliba’s development in France has justified their strategy with him so far.

Talks are planned for this summer, and they’re expected to include discussions over a new contract.

The Athletic recently reported that Arsenal will be in a position where they arguably need to renew or sell Saliba this summer.

The same outlet suggested Saliba is currently intending to return to Arsenal next season and compete for a first-team place.
