Arsenal’s Omar Rekik has picked up an injury, and he ended up missing out on international duty with Tunisia as a result.

Omar Rekik had been called up for the senior Tunisia national team over the international break, but he remained with Arsenal at first. Due to travel restrictions, he was always going to be unable to feature in Tunisia’s first game last Thursday.

All the same, his country were happy to call him up for the second, and he played with the Arsenal u23s in the meantime. The centre-back completed the full 90 minutes against AFC Bournemouth in a Premier League Cup clash last week.

The plan was then for the defender to join up with Tunisia in Mauritania, but he was absent from Sunday’s matchday squad, and he also missed Arsenal’s u21 fixture on Tuesday.

Tunisie Football explain that in the end, Rekik was unable to make the squad for their game due to injury.

We don’t have any further details on the nature of the injury at this stage, nor exactly when he sustained it. But it’s certainly a concern after Rekik missed most of the first half of 2021 with injury problems.

With the Arsenal u23s performing so well with Rekik as a starter lately, they’ll hope to see him back in the side as soon as possible.
