Arsenal announced the signing of Omar Rekik from Hertha BSC in January, but he’s struggled with injury setbacks ever since then.

After initially joining training in January, Rekik dropped out for a couple of weeks, then returned to training in February, before seemingly suffering another setback keeping him out until now.

The good news is that Rekik announced on his Instagram story (above) that he’ll be “back soon”. There’s still almost a month left of the Arsenal u23 season, so that hopefully opens up the possibility of a debut in the current campaign.

Before joining Arsenal, Rekik was playing with Hertha’s second team. He made eight appearances for them this season, scoring one and assisting one whilst starting at centre-back.

The u23s have really struggled to keep clean sheets in recent months, only managing one in their nine games since Rekik’s arrival at the club. A lot of that is due to inexperience in the back-four, with u18s stepping up and players starting out of position.

Steve Bould’s side are still flirting with relegation as we head into the final four games of the season, so if Rekik could make his comeback and help secure a couple of wins, that would be a great start.
