The Premier League announced the results of their Manager of the Month award for September on Friday, with Mikel Arteta picking up the win.

The Arsenal boss was the only manager to win all his Premier League fixtures in September, as his side scored five goals and conceded one.

There’s no doubt the highlight of the month was the emphatic North London derby win over Tottenham Hotspur, with Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang starring in a first-half goal rout.

Arteta beat Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, Graham Potter, and Dean Smith to the award, Arsenal’s first Manager of the Month award since Arsene Wenger won one in October 2015.

In the time in between, 20 different Premier League clubs had seen at least one of their managers win the award. An entire league’s worth of clubs had a turn before Arsenal.

But it was well deserved on this occasion, so congratulations to Arteta. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait another six years for the next.
