Arsenal have been linked with a move for Brighton 25-year-old Yves Bissouma for a while now. The rumours initially began to gather pace as the summer transfer window grew closer, but the expected bid never came.

Former Gunner Ray Parlour was clearly disappointed by that, as he admits he’d love to see the player at the Emirates Stadium and thinks he has a lot of the qualities you need to be a top midfielder.

“I’ve said for a long time that Bissouma is a top-class player,” Parlour told talkSPORT (via Daily Mail). “I would love to see him at Arsenal, I said that in the transfer window: the one player I would like to see is Bissouma.

“I think he’s got everything. He’s efficient on the ball, he can put his foot in as well, he can pass.

“He probably could score a few more goals I should imagine, but he’s not in the position to score goals. He’s the one that is going to keep everything ticking.”

Arsenal did make a couple of midfield signings over the summer, bringing in Martin Odegaard and Albert Sambi Lokonga. They may well have brought in another if Granit Xhaka had left, but the Swiss international ended up signing a new contract instead.

As things stand, that leaves Arsenal with Thomas Partey, Odegaard, Emile Smith Rowe, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Lokonga, Xhaka, and Mohamed Elneny to fill three positions.

You’d imagine the club would want to move one or two of those on before bringing another big-money signing in. Particularly when youth midfielders like Miguel Azeez and Charlie Patino are waiting in the wings for opportunities, among others.

Bissouma made 39 appearances for Brighton last season, winning plenty of praise from around the Premier League, and he’s started every league game of the new campaign as well.
