Granit Xhaka has put pen to paper on a new Arsenal deal to 2025, according to a report from Switzerland.
Andreas Boni of BLICK reports that the deal is fixed and the ink is dry, with Granit Xhaka signing his new contract with Arsenal to 2025.
Fabrizio Romano previously reported that Arsenal were confident to have Granit Xhaka tied down to a new contract very soon. They’d reached an agreement with the player to June 2025, and the player is ready to accept it.
At the time, they just needed to sort the final clauses before making it official. It looks like they’ve now done that.
Xhaka had initially been expected to leave the club this summer, with AS Roma pursuing him for over a month to little avail. But rather than selling him on in the current window, Arsenal have now signed the midfielder to an extension.
Mikel Arteta showed his faith in the 28-year-old again on Friday, making him captain against Brentford, albeit in a very disappointing defeat.
Reports suggest Xhaka was always happy to stay at Arsenal, even if he was aware that he was up for sale and clearly willing to go to Roma. But Arsenal are going to keep him now, and they reaffirmed their commitment to him with this new deal.
