Daniel Ballard was immediately back into the action with Millwall this weekend, after his trip to hospital earlier in the week.

Arsenal loanee Daniel Ballard was taken to hospital for a bad cut over his eye on Wednesday night, but he was straight back into the Millwall team and putting in a strong performance against Coventry City on Saturday.

Ballard had been forced off against Swansea with a facial injury, and manager Gary Rowett confirmed he was taken to hospital afterwards with a swollen eye.

But with no concussion and only a nasty bruise to show for the injury, Ballard was in the starting lineup again this weekend.

The 21-year-old put in another strong individual display, making four clearances, two interceptions, two blocks and four interceptions without being dribbled past. He also won all five of his ground duels.

Millwall had to settle for a draw, but it was another good performance from Ballard himself. He doesn’t seem to have had any trouble stepping up to the Championship so far, just as he settled in easily in League One last campaign.

After the Championship visit of Coventry, Millwall will be preparing for a League Cup game against Leicester City next Wednesday. That one would be a great experience for Ballard, so hopefully he’ll be involved again.

Ballard has been in strong recent form, scoring against West Brom and keeping a clean sheet with Northern Ireland against Switzerland. At this early stage, he’s already made nine appearances and played 780 minutes for Millwall.
