Reiss Nelson has not been included in Feyenoord’s squad for their Europa Conference game this week because he isn’t fit enough to take part.

Reiss Nelson signed a new contract at Arsenal before joining Feyenoord on loan, but most believe his contract extension to be nothing more than Arsenal protecting their investment.

Even fewer think he has a future at the club under Mikel Arteta.

Since signing for the Dutch outfit, Feyenoord haven’t had a match due to the international break. On Tuesday, however, they return to action against Maccabi Haïfa in the newly-formed UEFA Conference League.

The Feyenoord squad selected for the game that will take place in Israel is: Bijlow, Marciano, Troost, Pedersen, Geertruida, Senesi, Malacia, Sinisterra, Kökcü, Linssen, Aursnes, Trauner, Teixeira, Bannis, Hendriks, Til, Toornstra, Dessers, Hartjes.

As you see, no room for Nelson in the 19-player party.

According to Voetbal Primeur in the Netherlands, Nelson has not been included because he is not yet match fit.

Before leaving Arsenal this season, Nelson played 19 minutes in the Premier League against Brentford, while he was on the bench against Chelsea.

Fit enough for Arsenal, even as just a sub, but not fit enough for Feyenoord a few weeks later when he would have been in full training? That should raise questions for sure.

Feyenoord’s next match after the Conference League game is a massive one against PSV Eindhoven on 19 September.

Maccabi Haifa vs Feyenoord will be played on Tuesday, 14 September, 2021, kick-off 3.30pm (UK).
