Despite currently being out with an injury, Thomas Partey has made Ghana’s provisional squad for the early September international break.

On Friday, the Ghana FA posted their provisional squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa, and Arsenal’s Thomas Partey was among the names listed.

This is obviously a little surprising, given Partey is out injured. The latest update from Arsenal was that they were continuing to assess the midfielder’s ankle ligament injury, and currently expecting him to rejoin training by the end of August.

That would give the player a pretty tight turnaround to be available for the international break a few days later.

Hopefully, this is a sign that Ghana have received assurances that Partey’s injury is nothing more serious, and there’s a chance he will be fit for the next break. On the other hand, it’s very possible they’re just naming him on the off-chance he’s fit without any confirmation.

Partey seems to be feeling pretty positive, posting a video on his Instagram story riding a bike captioned “ankle progressing”.
