According to plenty of reports in the last few days, Nuno Tavares is set to complete a transfer to Arsenal fairly imminently, after reaching a deal with Benfica.

The Athletic and Goal clarified on Wednesday that the total size of the deal won’t exceed €10m (£8.6m), even including add-ons. Goal write that the initial fee is £7m, with £1.5m of bonuses should certain clauses be met during Tavares’ time with Arsenal.

Back in Portugal, O Jogo (via Sport Witness) claim those bonuses relate to collective achievements rather than individual ones. So it’s less likely to be about how many appearances the player makes and more to do with how Mikel Arteta’s team does.

O Jogo also report that despite previous claims that Tavares was signing a five-year deal, it’s actually four years with one optional extra. The player is taking a Covid-19 test today to confirm he’s free to travel to London.

There’s some disagreement over exactly when he’ll travel, with Record claiming he’ll make the trip today whilst O Jogo report he’ll get on a plane on Friday or Saturday. But they all agree it will be this week.

After that, O Jogo suggest Tavares will have to quarantine for 10 days, but he can leave quarantine after five if he tests negative again. If true, that would make him available for the Edinburgh training camp that kicks off Arsenal’s pre-season fixtures.
