The S*n report that Arsenal are considering a move for Matchoi Djalo of Pacos de Ferreira, who is available for £1m this summer. The 18-year-old winger is seen as a long-term prospect.

Linked with Everton, Southampton, Newcastle United, and Juventus back in 2019, Djalo instead remained with his current club as he continues to try and break into senior football.

The teenager has made eight appearances for Pacos de Ferreira, including six in Liga NOS, the Portuguese first division. In total, he’s played 195 minutes and scored one goal.

But Djalo is yet to fully break into his club side, and it’s more likely he caught Arsenal’s eye with the Portugal u18s. He scored two in two appearances for the team in international friendlies last month.

You’d obviously expect Djalo to be joining the Arsenal u23s at first, as it’s unlikely a player of his experience will be jumping straight into Premier League football.

From that point of view, the u23 team did need some reinforcements out wide last season. The likes of Folarin Balogun often had to fill in due to the lack of wide options, and Trae Coyle has also left the club this summer.

That will be addressed by the likely promotion of Kido Taylor-Hart (assuming he extends), Omari Hutchinson, Marcelo Flores, and others throughout the year, so it’s not exactly a burning issue.

It would just be a bonus to add another talented young winger to the group, particularly one like Djalo who can also play in midfield.
