Dani Ceballos looks like he will be on the move again this summer but he won’t be coming back to Arsenal with his former manager saying he wasn’t suited to the Premier League.

When Dani Ceballos was at Arsenal, he did a whole lot of nothing, so it was no great surprise when the midfielder said he wanted to return to Spain where he felt the football suited him better.

Recently compared to a mix of Andrea Pirlo and Genaro Gattuso by Pepe Mel, who managed him at Real Betis, most Arsenal fans will be wondering if Mel is talking about a completely different player.

“What I am going to say must be taken with care, but he is a mix between Pirlo and Gattuso,” Mel said. “With me, he played midfielder, but it can also be a 10. He is one of those who leaves his soul: if they don’t give him the ball, he is going to look for it.”

Asked then about Ceballos’s time in England with Arsenal, he said, “The Premier League has very high rhythms for him. Dani would work better at Calcio, where quality is ahead. And he has plenty: he would be perfect for Milan.”

In other words, he was too slow for the Premier League.

AC Milan are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Ceballos this summer with his time at Real Madrid seemingly coming to an end. Just recently, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez admitted a decision will have to be made over Ceballos and his future.

“We have 35 players and can only register 25…Ceballos, Kubo, Odegaard, we can’t fit them all,” said Perez.

“We’re talking with players and their agents. We have a lot of young players, if they can’t develop here they can go on loan and come back.”

As much as Arsenal would like to bring Odegaard back to the Emirates, he is set to get a chance to show what he can do at Real Madrid under Carlo Ancelotti.

Ceballos, however, is another matter entirely.

It is claimed that Real Madrid will start budding for Ceballos at €30m.
