Lucas Torreira is in talks with Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio, with Arsenal asking for €20m for the midfielder’s transfer this summer.

Matteo Moretto reports that Lazio are an option for Lucas Torreira this summer, and one he is interested in. For now, there’s nothing more in the potential transfer than preliminary talks, with Arsenal asking for €20m.

This isn’t the first time Torreira has been linked with a move to Lazio. Reports earlier this month suggested the 25-year-old had been offered to the Serie A club.

I’m always wary of links to the Italian clubs, as they never seem to offer serious money. Arsenal are currently in a deadlock over Granit Xhaka’s sale because AS Roma won’t offer £17m, half the price the Gunners bought him for.

Lazio are in the Europa League next season, so that should give them a little money to work with at least.

Torreira is currently away with Uruguay at Copa America. He played 64 minutes of their opening game against Argentina on Friday night, the first of four group stage matches.

Unfortunately, they lost 1-0, but the Copa America group stage is pretty forgiving. The top four teams all progress to the knockout stages – in groups of just five teams to begin with.

So, Torreira and Uruguay are likely to play at least four more matches at the tournament. I wouldn’t expect any serious progress on a sale until then, and it’s up to him to catch the eye and draw in further bidders before returning.
