Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard for a while but it has always looked like they would lose out to Leicester. That may not be the case after all.

Odsonne Edouard wanted to play for Leicester to reunite with Brendan Rodgers who managed him at Celtic. That’s what the stories said. The Arsenal links were consistent, however, as were those saying Edouard was going to end up at Leicester regardless.

In fact, I last wrote about this on 6 June as it was reported Edouard would join Leicester in a £15m move, and then promptly forgot all about it. It seemed a done deal. All Celtic were waiting for was the official confirmation of their new manager and then it would be wrapped up.

But it wasn’t. And now, Leicester are on the verge of signing Patson Daka instead, turning to the Red Bull Salzberg forward, who Arsenal and Manchester United were favourites to land, even though it was Liverpool who actually tried to sign him.

Keeping up?

The reason Leicester are now going to sign Daka is because they reportedly got fed up waiting on Edouard. Edouard has now, apparently, decided to see out the last year of his Celtic contract so he can move for free next season and, presumably, keep the transfer fee for himself.

Why shouldn’t he?

After all, this is exactly what Arsene ‘Mystic Weg’ Wenger predicted would happen
