Former AS Monaco and Lille sporting director Luis Campos is in talks with Arsenal, following his departure from Lille in December.
Loic Tanzi of French outlet RMC reports that Luis Campos is not going to join OGC Nice. Despite some recent claims, Campos isn’t even in contact with Nice. However, he is speaking with several other clubs, including Arsenal and Real Madrid.
Fellow French journalist Mohamed Toubache-Ter, who was the man to first report Matteo Guendouzi’s move to Arsenal, backs up Tanzi’s claims.
Campos really made a name for himself in the 2010s. With Monaco from 2013 to 2016 he oversaw plenty of high profile transfers including many now Premier League regulars, like James Rodriguez, Fabinho, Anthony Martial, and Bernardo Silva.
Then he moved to Lille in 2017, and we know how well he’s done there because Arsenal keep buying players from Lille. First Nicolas Pépé, then Gabriel Magalhaes, and now the links to Zeki Celik.
With Campos’ help in recruitment, Lille have just ended years of Ligue 1 PSG dominance to win the title themselves.
But after a change in management at Lille, Campos left the club in December, and he’s now available. Arsenal are evidently looking to pick him up and add some top-level experience to their backroom staff.
