Arsenal are reportedly considering a move for Athletic Club’s goalkeeper, Unai Simon as La Razon claim that Mikel Arteta isn’t best pleased with Bernd Leno.

If Arsenal do decide to replace Bernd Leno this summer, we will no doubt hear a lot from Emi Martinez. That being said, I’d be very surprised if Arsenal are looking to replace the German, unless he wants to leave (there have been some whispers regarding that).

All that aside, Arsenal need a new keeper this summer.

They currently only have Mat Ryan, who is only on loan until the end of the season and deemed not good enough for Brighton. It was recently reported that the club are in advanced negotiations to make that deal permanent. While Arsenal might sign him, he isn’t going to become the club’s number one keeper.

Unai Simon is a new name in the Arsenal rumour mill. The keeper, who was linked with a move to Real Madrid in 2019, is only 23 and definitely a signing for the long-term so it’s not unreasonable to think the club could be looking at bringing him to London this summer to give him time to acclimatise before the end of Leno’s contract in 2023.

That being said, we should remember that at the start of the season, and last year before his injury, we were hailing Leno for saving our asses on more than one occasion.

Simon is valued at around £27m and is under contract until 2025.
