Football Insider report that Arsenal are in advanced talks with Brighton and Hove Albion to sign Mat Ryan on a permanent deal this summer. Ryan joined on loan in January, but without an option to buy in the contract.

Though the 29-year-old’s two Gunners appearances haven’t gone as planned since then, there was little he could do about either of the goals he conceded. Mikel Arteta is clearly happy with the Australia international in training.

Transfer talks are reportedly “expected to be finalised”, progressing well at this stage. Given Ryan only has a year left on his contract, it would cost significantly less than £10m January asking price to complete the deal, according to the same report.

A boyhood Arsenal fan, Ryan is understandably keen to complete the move, even if he does face a bit of a battle with Bernd Leno to start matches. If the price is right, it would be a nice easy piece of business to do to start the summer.
