Konstantinos Mavropanos’ loan spell appears to have come to an early end after he picked up an injury playing for Stuttgart at the weekend.

Konstantinos Mavropanos had to come off after just 34 minutes against Gladbach on Saturday, having picked up an injury. Stuttgart head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo said after the game that the defender has a muscular issue.

There is no diagnosis yet, but I spoke to him. He has muscular problems,” Matarazzo revealed.

As a result, the Stuttgart coach believes Mavropanos is out of contention for an appearance in their final game of the season against Arminia Bielefeld next weekend – effectively ending his loan spell early.

Unfortunately, this is the second such case with Arsenal’s Bundesliga loanees. Matteo Guendouzi also picked up a season-ending injury earlier this month.

In this case, it may not be the end of Mavropanos’ time with Stuttgart, however. Sven Mislintat has been very insistent that they want the centre-back to return next season – likely on loan – and that he believes Mavropanos would welcome another move.

Mavropanos himself has also said in public interviews that he can imagine spending another year with Stuttgart, but it obviously depends on whether Arsenal have him in their plans for next season or not.

Whether he’s staying or going, he needs to focus on making a full recovery now.
