Konstantinos Mavropanos has been making a positive impression with VfB Stuttgart lately, even earning himself a call-up to the Greek national team on the basis of his recent performances.

It’s probably not much of a surprise that VfB sporting director Sven Mislintat recently publicly admitted the club would like to take him back on another loan next season. But Mavropanos himself has now also suggested he’d be open to that possibility.

“My deal with VfB ends in the summer, and then I will be returning to Arsenal at first,” Mavropanos said. “But I can imagine spending another year here because I feel comfortable at VfB, and the Bundesliga is very challenging.”

The 23-year-old made WhoScored’s Bundesliga Team of the Week last weekend by keeping a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over Hoffenheim. He made seven clearances, four interceptions, and blocked two shots on the day.

He’s now started eight league matches in a row as well, which says something about the improvements to his fitness levels. The centre-back has struggled with plenty of injuries in the past, but he is doing alright on that front at the moment.

With William Saliba and a number of youth centre-backs also returning to the club after loans this summer, Mikel Arteta will have a decision to make on Mavropanos and the rest.
