Since Arsenal’s exit from the Europa League, a number of players have been linked with moves away from the club. Mikel Arteta’s side are unlikely to play European football next season, and you can understand why that will push some players out.

Granit Xhaka is one of those that Arsenal staff reportedly believe intends to depart this summer, and there’s been some talk in Germany of a return to his former club Borussia Monchengladbach.

But Xhaka tells RP Online that these sorts of rumours are nothing new, and he still has a contract he’s happy to fulfil with Arsenal.

“There are always rumours at the end of the season, that’s for sure,” Xhaka said. “But I still have a two-year contract in London and I’m very happy with my family here. First of all, I’m looking at a successful Euros with the national team.”

Xhaka probably felt particularly frustrated as Arsenal were knocked out of the Europa League, as he couldn’t do anything to help. Pencilled in to start the second leg, the midfielder had to pull out at the last minute with an injury he’s yet to return from.

The good news for him is that he looks close to a comeback now. Arsenal don’t have a huge amount to play for, with even a seventh-place finish looking hugely unlikely, but Xhaka has the Euros to think about this summer.
