Arsenal have two fitness issues going into the penultimate game of the Premier League season against Crystal Palace, according to Mikel Arteta.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Mikel Arteta had a positive update on the fitness of his squad.

“I think everybody is fit apart from David [Luiz],” Arteta said. “Let’s see how Granit [Xhaka] is as well, but for the rest, I think they are okay.”

Obviously, it would be a shame if David Luiz is unable to make it back for one last game this week before he leaves the club in the summer. But for the rest, this is good news.

We didn’t have a timeframe for Granit Xhaka’s return, so it’s encouraging to hear he’s in contention for the match on Wednesday, whether he ends up featuring or not. At least it’s not something more serious.

Then there’s Hector Bellerin, who was forced off during Arsenal’s trip to Stamford Bridge last week. If Arteta is to be believed, Bellerin must have made a full recovery, along with the rest of the squad.

Arsenal don’t have a huge amount to play for, with even a win potentially not enough to keep their chances of any form of European qualification alive going into the final game of the season – depending on results with Spurs and West Ham.

Still, it would be nice to end the season by extending the current run of three league wins to four and five.
