The possibility of David Luiz remaining with Arsenal and extending his contract is still open, according to reports from Brazil.

Earlier in the week, reports suggested David Luiz’s representatives had started to open conversations with foreign clubs over a summer departure. The defender’s contract expires in June, at which point he’ll be a free agent.

Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola doesn’t deny that Luiz might leave. Speaking on his YouTube channel (via Sport Witness) he adds Benfica and Fenerbahce to the list of clubs to make enquiries, and he claims various Brazilian sides also have a shot.

On the other hand, Nicola claims that after speaking to Luiz’s agent, he’s learned there’s still a possibility the player stays at Arsenal. They haven’t concluded talks over a new contract, so there are no guarantees either way just yet.

Previous reports suggested Arsenal were only planning to make a decision on Luiz at the end of the season. They clearly wanted more clarity on exactly where they are before releasing or extending.

Whichever way it ends up going, it seems there hasn’t been a decision made just yet.
