Arsenal moves for Ryan Bertrand and Josh Doig as potential backups to Kieran Tierney both appear to be unlikely at this stage.

One of the positions that Arsenal appear to be looking at this summer is the left-back spot. Kieran Tierney is well-liked around the club and among the supporters, but the club don’t have a strong backup and the Scottish international has had a number of injury problems.

Two of the players linked with a move towards the end of the season were Ryan Bertrand and Josh Doig, but both are looking unlikely right now.

Football.London report that Leicester City are leading the way to sign Bertrand after holding talks with the defender. Meanwhile, whilst the club do like Doig, the Emirates Stadium ‘is now unlikely to be his final destination this summer’.

Previous reports also suggested that Leicester are leading the race for Bertrand, having been on his case since the beginning of the season.

As for Doig, there were some reports that Watford were at the front of the queue for him. If they can offer the 19-year-old a starting spot, perhaps that makes it more difficult for Arsenal.

You’d imagine Arsenal will still be looking to make a left-back signing this summer, but it appears these two are off the table.
