Over the last week or so, all of the participating countries at this summer’s European Championships have named their provisional squads for the tournament. So far, four Arsenal players have received call-ups.

None of the first three were particularly surprising. On Wednesday, Kieran Tierney was named in the Scotland squad, Bernd Leno made it in with Germany, and Switzerland called up Granit Xhaka. Leno was probably the only one with any doubts over his spot.

Bukayo Saka joined the trio on Tuesday, after being named in Gareth Southgate’s provisional 33-man squad. However, this squad will be cut by seven players before June 1st, so Saka is still at risk of missing out.

Unfortunately, Cedric Soares was not handed a spot in the Portugal squad. Despite featuring for his country over the last international break, the full-back didn’t manage to make it into the 26-man provisional squad for the tournament.

Joao Cancelo and Nelson Semedo were selected ahead of Cedric at right-back. It was arguably only Semedo’s absence in March that saw Cedric get back into the squad in the first place, so perhaps this isn’t the biggest surprise.

Hector Bellerin and Dani Ceballos also missed out with Spain, despite call-ups for their country earlier in the season.

It’s not just the Euros going on this summer, with Copa America and the Olympics also scheduled. Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhaes are already in the picture for the latter event.
