The Greek National Team announced their call-ups for the squad ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers later this month, and Arsenal loanee Konstantinos Mavropanos was among those selected.

Mavropanos has appeared for the Greece u21s in the past, but this would be his debut for the senior side – assuming he makes it onto the pitch. Greece face Spain (qualifier), Honduras (friendly), and Georgia (qualifier) in the upcoming break.

The 23-year-old is currently on loan with VfB Stuttgart, and he made WhoScored’s Bundesliga Team of the Week over the weekend by keeping a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over Hoffenheim.

He made seven clearances, four interceptions, and blocked two shots, as well as winning three of his four aerial duels on the day.

Despite a couple of injuries earlier in the campaign, the Arsenal defender is now up to 15 appearances for the season, and he’s started Stuttgart’s last seven league games.

Mavropanos is finally nailing down a spot in a team in Europe’s top-five leagues and the national call-up is simply a reflection of that progress. Good luck to him over the break!
