Ipswich Town have been on a difficult run lately, losing consecutive matches to Peterborough United and Sunderland before drawing 1-1 with Crewe Alexandra.

As a result, it was vital they got a win against Blackpool on Saturday to keep their hopes of a finish in the play-off places alive. McGuinness started in defence, his 17th consecutive appearance for the team – making 16 starts in that time.

In all, it was another positive performance from the centre-back. He made three clearances, three interceptions and won 10 of his 14 individual duels, as well as creating a chance at the other end.

The only disappointment will be that he didn’t score when he had a good chance to do so. But it didn’t matter, as Ipswich ran out 2-0 winners on the day.

McGuinness had also played a positive role in Paul Lambert’s side’s last win, scoring the only goal and making the League One Team of the Week in a win over Burton Albion.

However, in between the two wins, he scored an own goal to give Peterborough their victory over Ipswich.

So he’ll be happy to be getting the side back on track now, earning their fifth clean sheet in his 15 league starts.
