After missing Gillingham’s defeat to Exeter City on Saturday with a knock, Zech Medley is in line to make his comeback on Wednesday.

After starting 16 games for Gillingham already, it was a surprise to see Zech Medley left out of the squad to face Exeter City in the FA Cup on Saturday. It turns out the defender picked up a knock, with Gillingham losing 3-2 in his absence.

Fortunately, for both player and club, Gillingham boss Steve Evans claims Medley should be back in time for their next game away to Bristol Rovers on Wednesday.

“Yes, all three (Zech Medley, Josh Eccles and Tom O’Connor) should be available subject to training fully tomorrow and Tuesday,” Evans said. “We have a small squad but a talented one and it’s time for a positive reaction.”

After dropping out of the League Cup and the FA Cup, Gillingham have just two fronts left to fight on – League One and the EFL Trophy. They face Cambridge United away in the first knockout round of the latter competition.

That’s still plenty of games, though. Even if Gillingham go out to Cambridge, there are still 34 games left for Medley to feature in, plenty to continue his development on loan.

Fellow Arsenal loanee Trae Coyle will hope that’s also enough for him to get another chance at Gillingham, because he’s only up to three league starts for the campaign.
