James Olayinka scored a rare winner for Southend United on Saturday, as he continues to be one of few positives in their season so far.

Southend United continue to prop up League Two, having only won a single game in 15 before this weekend. However, Arsenal loanee James Olayinka gave them a reason to be cheerful against Scunthorpe United, firing in a late winner for the hosts.

Scoring goals has certainly been their biggest problem. There are teams in the league who have conceded a similar amount or more than they have, but no other club is in single figures for goals – whilst Southend are on seven.

Olayinka gave them that seventh on Saturday, with a well-placed finish 10 minutes from time. He arrived at the edge of the box just in time to meet the cutback and put the ball in the corner beyond the diving goalkeeper.

Southend held on to win, bringing them within four points of escaping the relegation zone.

This was Olayinka’s first league goal on loan, but not his first in all competitions. He scored a fantastic solo effort in the FA Cup last month, which is definitely worth a watch here.
