Dominik Szoboszlai’s agent Matyas Esterhazy denies the recent reports that his client is close to a move to RB Leipzig.

Sport Bild reported earlier this week that Dominik Szoboszlai is close to completing a January move to Leipzig. They claimed he’ll cost €20m plus add-ons, as well as a sell-on clause, becoming the 18th player to move from Salzburg to Leipzig since 2012.

The player’s agent denies the claims. Speaking to Hungarian outlet Index (via Fussballeck), Esterhazy said plainly: “Dominik Szoboszlai has no agreement with Leipzig or any other club, except of course his current club Red Bull Salzburg.”

This update is seemingly good news for Arsenal. Last week, the same agent confirmed interest from the Gunners, and Fabrizio Romano suggested Szoboszlai is in love with the Premier League – adding that the North London club were considering him.

Szoboszlai is in great form with Salzburg, with five goals and nine assists in 13 matches this season. That assist tally could prove particularly attractive to Arsenal, who are struggling to create chances consistently this season.

We all know how agents operate by now, though. It’s very possible Szoboszlai is indeed close to Leipzig, and his agent is either trying to hide that fact from RB Salzburg or generate competing interest to ensure his client gets a good salary with Leipzig.

The only thing we can really rule out is any suggestion it’s a done deal. The rest is still up in the air.
