Corriere dello Sport (via Francesco Porzio) report that Arsenal are proposing swapping Granit Xhaka for Inter Milan – and former Tottenham Hotspur – midfielder Christian Eriksen.

Porzio adds that the player may well leave Inter in January, with many Premier League clubs interested in him. He’s unhappy with his current situation at the club, less than a year after joining.

Spurs sold Eriksen to Inter this January, and he’s made 33 appearances since then. But only 15 of those were starts, and he’s completed 90 minutes on just four occasions.

There’s a sense that he’s not getting on well with Antonio Conte, and he perhaps doesn’t fit the Italian manager’s system.

With Denmark, Eriksen seems much more comfortable. Over the last two international breaks, he has five goals in five games. Four were from the penalty spot, but even so, he’s earning plaudits with his country that he’s not getting in Italy.

Most of us are already well aware of the player’s performances in England from 305 appearances with Spurs, so the 28-year-old is a known quantity. It’s also not entirely out of the question Xhaka might leave, with his role at Arsenal in doubt after Partey’s arrival.

Francesco Porzio is a reliable source, so I’d trust that Eriksen is considering leaving, but Corriere dello Sport are much more hit and miss. We’ll see if Arsenal really do try and make Eriksen the next Sol Campbell in January.
