Arsenal signed Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid on deadline day so what number did he get?

Arsenal paid Partey’s £45m release clause and the player has been announced as an Arsenal player, so what number did he get?

Partey wore the number 5 shirt at Atletico Madrid. At Arsenal, that is currently on the back of Sokratis, although he isn’t using it too much and the club were trying to get him out the door on the same day Partey would arrive, meaning it was briefly possible the midfielder could have the number he’d most likely want.

Sokratis ended up staying and Arsenal seem to have let him keep his number. Partey might have asked for the 22, the number he wore at Atletico for three seasons before he went back to the five. He can’t have that one as Pablo Mari is currently not using it.

Mari has also wore the six and seven for a single season each but they belong to Gabriel and Bukayo Saka respectively.

Lucas Torreira’s 11 became available when he completed his move to Atletico Madrid but that should never again be given to a defensive midfielder.

18 was the first number available at Arsenal and that’s exactly the one the Thomas has taken at the club.
