Charles Watts reports that Arsenal have finally made their deadline day move for Thomas Partey. James Benge confirmed that the club are making ‘late progress’ towards signing the player.

This seemingly confirms reports from TheAFCBell earlier on deadline day that the Arsenal camp called up the Thomas Partey to confirm their plans to complete a deadline day transfer. The same source now writes that the Gunners will activate his release clause.

For the sake of balance, we have to mention that Atletico sources are strongly denying the reports. Matteo Moretto writes that “Thomas to Arsenal is a lie”, adding that there’s nothing new on the case.

It’s possible there’s a situation where both sides are telling the truth. If Arsenal plan to activate the clause, but haven’t done so yet, Atletico sources may be the last ones to know. But it’s also possible the English sources have it wrong. We’ll see.

Sky Sports are also reporting on the news, claiming Arsenal still want to sign Partey. They repeat that Atletico aren’t accepting anything other than his release clause, adding that the Gunners are trying to free up wages and squad space with loans.
