The Daily Mail report that Lucas Torreira is likely to leave Arsenal on deadline day, after holding a medical with Atletico Madrid over the weekend.

At this stage, Torreira is just waiting for Atletico to agree a sale before they can ratify his loan. The deal will include an option to make the move permanent for £22m.

Arsenal technical director Edu is keen to push the move through, after positive talks between the player’s camp and Atletico last week.

Torreira reportedly said his goodbyes to Arsenal teammates on Friday at London Colney. He spent the weekend posting Instagram story photos of his trip to Madrid along with his family, so he’ll certainly hope the move doesn’t fall apart now.

It’s unlikely to do so, but it’s hard to say for sure until we get confirmation of an Atletico sale. If they don’t bring in the money they need and offload the right players, they aren’t just going to bring in Torreira anyway for the sake of it.

Arsenal need to offload a couple of players to trim the non-homegrown section of their squad. Right now, they’re two players overstocked, and that’s before any potential signings.
