TheAFCBell report that the Thomas Partey camp received a call from Arsenal in the last few hours to confirm the club’s plans to complete a deadline day transfer. The player’s PR representative also posted a cryptic tweet just minutes earlier:

As far as we know, there was still no bid for Thomas Partey as recently as last night. However, his camp are confident that a deal can still happen on deadline day, and Arsenal appear to have a similar belief in the possibility.

According to all reliable reports to this point, the Gunners would have to activate Partey’s release clause to do a deal.

On the one hand, that’s a €50m transfer, representing a major outlay and significantly more than Arsenal have spent on anyone else this summer. So it’s no small detail and it almost seems out of the realms of possibility.

On the other, it does make the transfer fairly straightforward. Arsenal pay the money, do the medical, sign the paperwork and that’s it. No negotiations necessary, as long as Partey wants to come, which it appears he does.

We’re not telling you to get your hopes up yet, but at least we have one reason to keep an eye on the window until it shuts.
