The news that Marcelo Flores trained with the Arsenal first team has Mexican Football Twitter in something of a flutter and it got even more excited when Flores Senior shared the most outrageous goal scored by his son.

Arsenal signed Flores in 2018 when he was just 15 and, at one point, he was at the club along with his two sisters. Silvana and Tatiana both moved to Chelsea earlier this summer but Marcelo was rewarded with a scholarship deal.

On Thursday night, Marcelo’s father, Ruben, sent out this goal that made its way to Twitter:

An attacking midfielder, Flores comes with an incredible story, was once labelled ‘the Canadian Craig Bellamy’ [he is a dual national thanks to his mum] and turned down Tottenham and Liverpool to join Arsenal.

Flores got his first call-up to the Mexico u18s in January 2020 despite only being 16 at the time, joining the team for the Atlantic Cup at the end of the month.

Last year, we spoke exclusively to Marcelo about joining Arsenal’s academy, the Montaigu Tournament and his international future.

“I love (Matteo) Guendouzi, he is a great player,” Flores told us. “I love how he always passes forward and how good and calm on the ball he is. I also love (Lionel) Messi, (Eden) Hazard and Ronaldinho, who is my favourite player.

“Next season, I want to be a regular starter at Arsenal and perhaps break into the u18s team, and play more international games to get more experience.”
