Writing on Instagram, Marcelo Flores said he’d “had a really fun football season” and “can’t wait to start full-time next year”. Daily Cannon sources have since confirmed he’ll stay with Arsenal for his scholarship deal.

Worryingly, Arsenal lost both of Flores’ sisters to Chelsea in the last week. Silvana confirmed her departure in an emotional Instagram post, whilst Tatiana also made her move clear by updating her bio. Instagram is clearly the place to go for news on the Flores siblings.

Marcelo isn’t planning to follow them at this stage, though, so that’s good news.

The 16-year-old joined Arsenal in 2019, spending most of his time with the u16s this season. However, he also made his u18 debut in the u18 Premier League, followed by a couple of appearances in the FA Youth Cup.

Flores is still very young, but the early signs are of a talented prospect. He performed well with the u16s at the Istria Youth Cup, he helped them reach the Premier League National Cup final, and he regularly appeared for the Mexico u16s in 2019.

The next step up to become an u18 regular as a scholar is certainly an exciting one.
