Atletico Madrid are in talks to sign Lucas Torreira this window, but they’re pushing for a loan deal for the Arsenal midfielder at this stage.

The Athletic report that Atletico Madrid are in talks to sign Lucas Torreira, currently pushing for a one-year loan. Arsenal obviously prefer a permanent deal or a loan with an obligation, but that’s not what Atletico are offering right now.

The Spanish club are far from the only club in for Torreira, with a number of Italian teams showing interest. So Arsenal do have some bargaining power in negotiations.

Sebas Giovanelli reported earlier this week that Diego Simeone called Torreira and told him he wants him in Madrid. Now he claims the player is ‘very close’ to completing a move.

Matteo Pedrosi isn’t so sure, claiming Arsenal rejected Atletico’s first offer. They bid for a loan with an option to buy.

As for whether this means an Arsenal move for Thomas Partey, Matteo Moretto and David Vinuesa Malbac claim Partey will stay regardless of the Torreira deal.

Of course, Partey has a release clause, so if Arsenal decide to buy, there’s not much Atletico can do. But it seems as if he’s not part of the current negotiations, at least.

For the record, The Athletic claim Arsenal are looking to move Torreira on exactly so they can sign Aouar or Partey. So we’re getting different stories from each side of the deal.
