Arsenal confirmed on Monday morning that Jonathan Dinzeyi had officially completed his free transfer to the club. The 20-year-old left Tottenham Hotspur this summer after reaching the end of his contract.

Reports in the media effectively confirmed this move last week, but now it’s official.

Dinzeyi joins Tim Akinola, George Lewis and Salah-Eddine Oulad M’Hand in a youth recruitment drive to bring in players on free transfers who can hopefully improve the u23s. Ideally, they’ll then either step up to the first team or leave for a profit.

Dinzeyi made 26 appearances for the Spurs u23s in the last three seasons but he wasn’t getting the gametime he would’ve wanted this campaign.

Though the centre-back started against Leicester City in their penultimate game before lockdown, it was his first start since September.

Arsenal clearly think the player is worth more than Spurs were giving him credit for. He’ll have a lot of competition at Arsenal, but it’s up to Dinzeyi to reward the faith shown in him.

The youngster posted on Twitter: “Thank God for this opportunity! I can’t wait to get started!”
