Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms that a deal has been agreed with Inter Milan for Alexis Sanchez to leave permanently
Alexis Sanchez spent this season on loan in Italy with Inter but his loan runs out today [Thursday]. Manchester United and Inter have agreed a deal that will see United cancel the remainder of his contract and the Chilean take a £130,000 pay cut, after tax.
“We have agreed [the deal],” United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told BT Sport after his side reached the quarter-finals following their win over LASK.
“He has enjoyed his time there. He is a top player but for whatever reason we didn’t see the best of him. He is a top professional and we wish him all the best.”
With just five goals in 45 appearances for United, Alexis never justified the massive salary he was given. With a £300,000 basic, less than Mesut Ozil, his deal was also loaded with bonuses that could have seen him earn up to £560,000 a week.
He also earned an additional £1.1m per year as part of his signing-on bonus so United have removed that obligation from their books as well.
Had Alexis remained at the club he would have cost them another £50m for the last two years of his deal..
Initial reports don’t make clear exactly what Alexis will earn at Inter, but it is likely now well under £300,000.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan, meanwhile, is expected to complete his permanent move to Roma at some point.
