The S*n claim Arsenal could sell Maitland-Niles this summer, but not for less than their price tag. They want £20m for the versatile 22-year-old as they try to raise funds for possible incomings.

This is the latest in a growing list of reports on Maitland-Niles’ availability in the coming window. The Athletic wrote that he’s likely to move on permanently, after falling out of favour. Reports from abroad suggested he could leave on loan.

Most recently, Maitland-Niles returned to the Arsenal team for the friendlies against Brentford and Charlton. He was playing in the midfield position he reportedly prefers to the right-back role he had earlier in the campaign.

Mikel Arteta certainly appears to be giving that option a chance. Whether he’ll actually use it in the competitive fixtures remains to be seen, though. Maitland-Niles set up a goal in the Charlton match, but his mistake against Brentford lost Arsenal that game.

The right-back option is fast disappearing, with Hector Bellerin’s return and Cedric Soares’ arrival. Even Sokratis Papastathopoulos is ahead in that pecking order. If Maitland-Niles can’t nail down a spot in midfield in the next month or so, a move does seem likely.
