Pablo Bentancur, agent to Lucas Torreira, says his client would love to return to Italy, despite positive developments in his relationship with Arsenal.
Speaking to TMW about his client Lucas Torreira, Pablo Bentancur admitted a move back to Italy is appealing to them. Whilst things are improving in his relationship with the club, there are no guarantees he’ll stay.
“Lucas had been in a bit of a bad mood over some technical differences, then he recovered,” Bentancur began. “And the injury arrived, fortunately less serious than expected. Today he is completely recovered, I believe he will be a market man.
“I will have to speak to Arsenal. The player would love to return to Italy, but it must be acknowledged that Arsenal treated him very well and behaved great.”
For those who aren’t aware, when Bentancur talks about the ‘technical differences’ he’s almost certainly referring to the way Unai Emery used the midfielder. In the latter days of his tenure, he decided Torreira was an attacking midfielder, for some reason.
That changed under Mikel Arteta, but then came the injury. Still, as Bentancur mentions, the fitness issue wasn’t as bad as they thought and then football was off for a few months anyway. So it barely even had an impact on Torreira’s season.
The public statement that he’d love a return to Italy is certainly worth noting, however. Gianluca Di Marzio recently suggested he didn’t think Torreira wanted to return to the country yet. Evidently, he didn’t get that information from the player’s agent.
Personally, I’d quite like to go one transfer window without hearing Torreira transfer rumours. Maybe one day.
