Ryan Fraser is reportedly edging closer to a move to Galatasaray despite being heavily linked with a big move to Arsenal.
Fraser will be out of contract at the end of the season which means he is available for free.
Reports in April claimed Arsenal believed they were leading the chase to sign the Scot, but the Daily Record now states that the Turks and their Champions League qualification could prove too much of a draw for Fraser.
Last summer, plenty of outlets reported on Arsenal’s apparent interest in Fraser. In the end, the club signed Nicolas Pepe instead, and didn’t push to complete any deal with the Bournemouth man.
It is, however, very possible Arsenal figured they’d rather pick Fraser up for free in 2020.
Fraser clearly believed there was something in those rumours, admitting in January that the links left him distracted. He only reached one goal and four assists this season before the football shutdown but it will be worth keeping an eye on his form in the remainder of the season.
The 26-year-old left winger’s season to date showed a dramatic drop from his previous campaign that saw him score eight and assist 15 in 42 matches, form that got him linked with Arsenal in the first place.
Perhaps that’s why Arsenal were really waiting – to see if last season was a one-off or not.
